With appraisal values constantly climbing across Texas, my office is often approached by constituents about the dire need for property tax relief. Some longtime homeowners even face being taxed out of their homes.

Sealy’s first jail, or calaboose, was first built in 1884, but caught fire in 1886. Tragically, when the jail burned, the prisoner inside the jail died. Accounts differ regarding how the fire was set, but all accounts agree the fire was accidentally set in an attempt by others to help free the prisoner.
Editorial cartoonist Ben Sargent once penned a masterful sketch of a newspaperman – a skinny, bugeyed fellow in a baggy suit with a press card in the band of his porkpie hat. The unnamed journalist was depicted in the simple act of entering a dark room at city hall and switching on a light.
The world needs more writers. More reporters, more photographers, more people to spread the word of happenings at all levels: local, state, nationand worldwide.
