Early voting numbers in on key Austin County races

More than 2.900 Austin County voters cast early voting in the March 5 Primary Election with numbers being released by the Austin County Clerk’s office Tuesday evening.

For the unexpired term for Austin County District Clerk, Diane Day has received 1,590 votes to Andrea Cardenas 860 votes. Cardenas was appointed by Austin County commissioners to fill out the remaining term of the retiring Carrie Gregor.

Primary general election set for March 5

Austin County voters will allow their voices to be heard in the upcoming primary election to be held Tuesday, March 5. Voting will take place from 7 a.m.

Sealy officially name “Sealy Pickleball Courts”

What better name for the courts courting those at Mark A. Chapman B&PW Park than “Sealy Pickleball Courts?” That was the name given to the courts after the Sealy City Council approved the name at their meeting last Wednesday, Feb. 20, after the courts originally opened last summer for the public to enjoy.

Sealy Planning Commission approves minor land plat

The Sealy Planning Commission approved the Minor Plat at a meeting last Wednesday, Feb. 14, subdividing a lot into two commercial lots The lot, about 1.906 acres, would be divided into two smaller parts for businesses. Commission members were recommended by Planning Director Mike Barrow to create one lot, Reserve A for Starbrite Electric Inc, covering about 1.053 acres. The other part, Reserve B, would be about 0.853 acres and would be empty for the time being.

When this season began, Sealy Head Softball Coach Brittany Whitehead knew she had a talented team on the field, but the unknown would be how this young squad would play on a stage of high competition. Last week, the Lady Tigers continued their growth as they had to go three games but were able to turn away a good Fredericksburg team in a best-of-three game regional quarterfinal series in Buda and advance to the regional semifinals this week in Cuero.

Authorities nab man on car thefts

Members of the Austin County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division arrested a New Ulm man in connection with a series of burglaries and thefts in the area. Quincy Kyle Janszen, 18, was arrested on several active warrants for charges of burglary of a building, theft of property (2,500 to 30,000) and theft of property $30,000 to $50,000).

Rizzo selected as new principal of Brazos High School

WALLIS - Brazos ISD announced the appointment of Andrew Rizzo as the new principal for the upcoming 2024-25 school year. The Board of Trustees approved Rizzo’s hire in a Special Board meeting Wednesday May 8.
