Community members quickly stepped up to support Kate's Kans after one of the nonprofit’s food pantries was emptied just days before a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Bellville. The public is invited to the Brookshire Juneteenth Festival on Friday, June 19. The parade will be at noon, followed by Family Funday from 1-5 p.m. at the Amphitheatre located at 4029 5th Street. The Grand Marshal of the parade will be DJ Chose. Music will be provided by Shonegotti. Celebrate freedom, honor history and build community at the Juneteenth Festival in Brookshire.

As Juneteenth nears, exhibit highlights lives of enslaved Texans

The San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site is showcasing an exhibit that tells the stories of five people whose names have largely been lost to history despite their contributions to early Texas. Each of the individuals showcased in the “Stories of the Enslaved” exhibit contributed to San Felipe's early industries in ways that were crucial but often taken for granted.
