RedTag-19, a vaccine vendor of the Department of State Health Services, held a three-day vaccination event at the pavilion of Mark A. Chapman Park in Sealy from May 26 to 28. Residents were able to get the first dose of the Moderna vaccine, cost-free, in their own towns. Lata Shintre, founder and CEO of RedTag-19, said the group will likely return for another clinic in four weeks where the second dose of the Moderna vaccine will be administered. COLE McNANNA

Turnbull signs off after 34 years

After 34 years of service to Austin County Emergency Medical Services, Assistant Chief Jim Turnbull signed off and entered retirement last Wednesday, May 26. Turnbull originally found his interest in EMS when he had a construction accident in 1986 and soon after enrolled in an EMT class at the Methodist Church sponsored by Houston Community College.

Sodolak joins Sealy school board

At May’s regular meeting of the Sealy ISD Board of Trustees in the junior high cafeteria last Wednesday, newly-elected John Sodolak (Place 6) was sworn in alongside Joe Mike Young (re-elected to Place 7) for a two-year term. After a closed session, Ryan Reichardt, Katy Grigar and Kristen Novicke were named as Board President, Vice President and Secretary, respectively, for the next year as nominated by the board.

A DAY FOR REMEMBRANCE

Monday morning, dozens of people gathered at the Sealy American Legion Post 442 for the Memorial Day program hosted by the Legion and the Auxiliary Unit. Later in the afternoon, retired Colonel and longtime community leader Paul Dronka – who passed away Memorial Day, 2020 – was honored with a ceremony at the Columbus Hall.

Sealy High School seniors took to the streets and paraded down Highway 90 last Thursday, May 20, as part of end-of-the-year events leading up to Friday’s graduation ceremony. Vehicles of all shapes, sizes and colors, some decorated and others not, took turns waving to the crowd that lined the street to congratulate them.
