Sealy PD reports surge in catalytic converter thefts

The Sealy Police Department has reported a surge of catalytic converter thefts directly from vehicles across Sealy in the past few weeks costing victims thousands in replacement costs. Thieves have been known to slide under cars or trucks and remove the device within minutes, often in search of the valuable platinum, palladium, and rhodium inside.

Deli lands in Bellville

Community members flocked to Birdies Deli & Co. just off of Highway 36 for the ribbon-cutting ceremony held Tuesday, Dec. 14. Rebecca Clanton Lewis said she hopes the Bellville business will fill empty stomachs in town with her famous desserts, casseroles, chicken salad and more. “I want the Bellville community to not have to leave their community to get good quality food. There are some great places around here, but this is what we were missing,” said Clanton-Lewis.

ANGEL TREE GIVES BACK

Residents from The Oaks and Silver Lakes retirement communities in Sealy gathered Thursday afternoon to receive their gifts from the Angel Tree. Throughout December, community members picked up ornaments from the tree in The Sealy News’ lobby that had the resident’s holiday wish on it and returned it to be distributed to each resident.

Escovy resigns as City Manager

During Wednesday’s special meeting of the Sealy City Council, the resignation of City Manager Warren Escovy was officially acknowledged and EDC Executive Director Kimbra Hill was announced as the incoming Interim City Manager.

Escovy started his third stint as the City of Sealy’s Interim City Manager after the departure of Lloyd Merrell Dec. 21, 2020, and was eventually hired for the full-time position during the April 20 regular meeting.
