In April, Child Protective Services (CPS) is joining with local governments, community groups, service organizations, and other partners to put the spotlight on preventing, recognizing, and reporting child abuse.

The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is preparing a study for a potential highway corridor connecting SH 36/I-69 southwest of Rosenberg northward to US 290/SH 6 north of Hempstead. The purpose of the project is to (1) address anticipated mobility/congestion issues based on projected growth, (2) improve north/south freight movement, (3) improve north/south system linkage/ connectivity and (4) improve safety and increase hurricane evacuation route capacity within the study area and region.

Last weekend, the City of Bellville was bustling with activity but none of the happenings were as sharp as the action at Phenix Knives for the third annual Texas Select from Forged in Fire event. Cowboy Szymanski has hosted the event at the Blacksmith Shop in downtown Bellville – originally built in 1891 – for fellow competitors of the History Channel’s knife-making competition show Forged in Fire to participate in live demonstrations and competitions.

With a 3-1 win over Salado last Friday, the Sealy Tiger soccer team clinched a spot in the Region 3 Championship for the first time in program history. Earlier this week, Sealy traveled to Cy Park High School to face the Splendora Wildcats, winners of District 22, in the fourth round of the playoffs.

T.J. Mills Stadium and Mark A. Chapman Field hosted the District 24-4A Championships last Tuesday (prelims) and Wednesday (finals) and the host Sealy Tigers earned the girls’ team championship and finished as runners up in the boys’ team competition behind 11 individual champions.

The Sealy Lady Tiger softball team wrapped up non-district play with a 16-1 loss to Shiner on Monday of this week at the Sealy High School Softball Stadium. The Lady Tigers moved on to their home finale and senior-night matchup with the Navasota Rattlers this Friday.
