Broad coalition applauds Texas Legislature’s passage of landmark student assessment reform

Austin — The Texas Legislature passed House Bill 8, sending the landmark legislation to Governor Greg Abbott for his signature. The bill, authored by Rep. Brad Buckley, R-Salado, and sponsored in the Senate by Sen. Paul Bettencourt, R-Houston, received statewide support, with more than 60 coauthors and cosponsors across both chambers.

Is God Dead? Ehrman’s claims

We have engaged with Bart Ehrman in past articles. He has been one of the most prolific critics of Christianity over the last 20 years, and we have considered several of his arguments when looking at the Christian resurrection narrative. It is Ehrman who claims the resurrection accounts in the Gospels are written long after the actual event, that the Christian resurrection narrative violates Ockham’s razor, and that the Gospels are deceptive Christian propaganda.

Texas DPS trooper wins North American Inspectors Championship

AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) announced that Trooper Dustin Henderson (San Angelo) has earned the Jimmy K. Ammons Grand Champion Award at the 2025 North American Inspectors Championship (NAIC). This is the highest honor awarded to a commercial motor vehicle roadside inspector in North America, recognizing exceptional skill, professionalism and dedication to roadway safety.

Austin County EEA hosts 2025 awards banquet, officer installation

The Texas Extension Education Association (TEEA) of Austin County recently gathered for its 2025 Awards Banquet and Officer Installation Ceremony, held in August at Industry City Hall. The event was hosted by West EEA Club and carried an “apple” theme in honor of the many years of service contributed by members across the county. This year’s banquet highlighted and celebrated members for their outstanding service and dedication as members. Members recognized were: Betty Lehmann, Betty Thiel, Delores Kuehn, and Mary Smentek – each for 20 years’ service; Joyce Amthor for 5 years’ service; Kathleen Halpin, Jinnie Kolojaco, Morgan Kolojaco, and Francis Plagens – each for 1 year.
