This year World Spay Day took place on February 23. PUPS - Prevent Unwanted Pets observed this day by approving free spay and neuter surgery for 104 Pitbull and Pitbull mix dogs; the most overpopulated and euthanized breed in America.

There have been multiple reports of a new COVID-19 vaccine email scam where people are asked to complete a survey. They offer a free reward but ask people to pay a nominal fee “to cover shipping.”

Arthur D’Andrea, the chair and sole remaining member of the Public Utility Commission, resigned late last week at the request of Gov. Gregg Abbott. D’Andrea pledged to remain on the PUC until Abbott names a replacement. In the announcement Abbott said in part, “Texans deserve to have trust and confidence in the Public Utility Commission, and this action is one of many steps that will be taken to achieve that goal.”

Internet Service Provider ZochNet recently acquired a local internet company Jet Jet Internet LLC, based out of Sealy, Texas. The deal closed February 28.

At its most recent meeting, the Bellville Hospital Foundation established an Advisory Board and named Mike Mueller, Marcella Schomburg (Foundation Board Chair), Jane Causey, Jim O’Jibway, Anne Ford, Gloria Neumann, and Margie Lovel as Advisory Board members.
