A respected leader in the nonprofit sector, Mrs. August brings nearly two decades of experience driving growth, cultivating meaningful partnerships, and advancing missions that serve others.

AC veggie contest crown champions

The 2025 Austin County Home-Grown Vegetable Contest was held Saturday, June 7 at Linseisen’s Feed & Supply in Bellville. Along with the contest, there was an educational program on Fermented Cucumber Pickles, presented by Garry Kroeger from the Bluebonnet Master Gardener Association. Congratulations to the winners, and thanks to all who participated, with 21 participants bringing in 69 entries.

Bonzo Crunch program set for June 26 Bonzo Crunch will be at Knox Memorial Library at 10 a.m. June 26. Special guest Bonzo Crunch will bring us his Vaudeville style comic, music, magic and juggling show. Bonzo Crunch: Fool at Large, also known as Rik Gern, has been performing as a clown since 1978. Inspired by the classic slapstick comedians of the ‘20’s and ‘30’s, Rik began his training at the Dell ‘Arte School of Mime and Comedy and later graduated from the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Clown College. As Bonzo Crunch, Rik has performed from the streets of Sydney, Australia and as a clown in the Ringling Brothers circus.

Empowering Communities: EEA hosts AmeriCorps educational program and service project

During June, the Austin County Extension Education Association (EEA) hosted an engaging and impactful educational program titled “Empowering Communities through AmeriCorps.” Led by Ada Eben and Project Coordinator Tiffanie Young, the presentation highlighted the important work AmeriCorps members do in communities across Texas. Attendees learned about the wide range of educational programs offered through the organization, including disaster preparedness, opioid addiction awareness, and public health initiatives. The presentation emphasized the importance of collaboration and education in strengthening communities and building resilience among residents.

Juneteenth celebrations across Austin and Colorado counties

Every year, celebrations are held across the country in remembrance of June 19, 1865; the day enslaved African Americans in Galveston were informed that slavery had been officially abolished under the Emancipation Proclamation. This year marks the 160th anniversary of that very day, the first major step towards equality, but a dark part of the U.S.’ history that will never be forgotten.
