In what is being described as a “hailpack,” portions of Austin County suffered some severe weather last Friday that caused car, tree and structure damage in the area. The hail was reportedly so heavy and large that it covered the ground for a half hour after the storm had passed through the Bellville area.

A Katy man was apprehended after a high-speed chase Feb. 28 in Bellville by Austin County authorities.

The Blinn College District Board of Trustees approved updates to Blinn’s strategic plan during its regular meeting Tuesday. Developed by a 16-member Strategic Planning Committee with input from faculty, staff, and campus advisory boards, Blinn’s strategic plan outlines its vision, mission, goals, and objectives and serves as a roadmap for the institution, helping to guide its actions and resource allocation in the coming years.

AUSTIN — State Park day pass reservations for April 8 will open 8 a.m. March 8 (CST).

The students listed on the President’s Honor Roll at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, are undergraduates who have achieved a perfect 4.0 grade point average in all work attempted while enrolled in not less than 12 semester hours. The university would like to recognize the following students for earning the honor for the Fall 2023 semester.

Members of some of the Sealy High School UIL Academics teams travelled to the Needville Invitational Tournament on Feb. 10, and many brought home medals.

Sealy High School artists competed in the VASE competition last week. Gracie Hall, Xitlali Chavez, Madison Buchman and Noemi Trevino presented their art to a juror who then interviewed them about their project. Buchman brought home a medal for her work which earned the highest rating and advanced to the next round.

Maggie B. Selman Elementary students recently competed in UIL competitions. The results and competitors are as follows: 2nd Grade Storytelling – Charlie Ehlert 3rd place, Payton Roper 4th place and Kyndal Keller 4th place. Other entrants included Sadie Minica and Peyton Parson.

COLUMBUS — Hound Song Brewing Co, located in downtown Columbus, was awarded Gold and Silver medals at the 2024 Texas Craft Brewers Cup presented by the Texas Craft Brewers Guild.

Austin County Feral Hog Bounty is still going on. The bounty program is offered with the support of the Austin County Commissioners Court.
