Early voting began earlier this week in Austin County for the May 1 general election with school board and city council races to determine. Voters were eligible to hit the polls at early voting locations around the county starting Monday morning.

At the regular meeting of Austin County Commissioners Court Monday, April 12, a proclamation was read by Judge Tim Lapham that honored April as Child Abuse Prevention Month and recognized CASA for Kids of South Central Texas.

A statewide glitch in the State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR) test on Tuesday, April 6, prevented about 300 of the 400 Sealy ISD students from completing the portion of the exam planned for that day, according to Sealy ISD Superintendent Bryan Hallmark.

The Sealy City Council decided at its April 6 regular meeting that it would look to improve a long-standing issue in the form of drainage on Front Street near downtown. During the meeting, a motion was made to award a bid for Front Street drainage improvements to Lonnie Lischka Co.
