Flood Warning extended

The Flood Warning League City's National Weather Service initially issued from Sunday morning into Monday night was extended to Tuesday morning according to a Saturday night announcement. 

The Flood Warning is for the San Bernard River near Austin, Wharton, Fort Bend and Colorado Counties where East Bernard, Sweeny and Boling are forecast to experience moderate flooding.

Fire destroys building at Villa de Austin

Late at night Friday, April 9, a fire destroyed a building at the Villa de Austin townsite at the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site. The museum confirmed the blaze consumed one of the newly constructed buildings in the townsite in a statement the following day “We are deeply appreciative of the quick and efficient response of the area emergency responders including the San Felipe-Frydek VFD, the Sealy Fire Department, the Pattison VFD, the Austin County Sheriff’s Department, Town of San Felipe officials and others,” the statement says.

Small business gives back

Texas Premier Sporting Arms, an open to the public and semi-private sporting clays facility, presented a donation check in the amount of $1,000 to the Sealy Fire Department April 15. All proceeds donated to the Sealy Fire Department were raised from Texas Premier’s 1st Annual Crawfish and Clays Sporting Clays Tournament held April 10 at Texas Premier.

Active cases drop

At the beginning of the week, the Department of State Health Services had a record of 31 active cases of COVID-19 in Austin County, three fewer than last week, and 1,745 total confirmed cases, 15 more than last week. No COVID-19-related fatalities have been reported since March 22.

State-bound SOAP

The Sealy High School One Act Play group recently qualified for the state competition with a first-place finish at regionals. Cody Prause, Cam Turner and McKenna Branson were among the Tiger representatives that earned individual awards. The state competition will be held at Davenport High School in Schertz April 28 and 29.
