Sealy High School’s Kenna Schram was crowned the Grand Champion for her Pen of Broilers (cockerels) at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo over the weekend. Her project sold for $200,000 to Roger Camp, Becky and Kelly Joy, Julie and Alan Kent and Gregory Miller at the 2022 Junior Market Poultry Show.

Trio charged in attempted post office burglary

March 13, at approximately 12:40 a.m., Austin County Deputies were dispatched to the Industry Post Office in reference to several suspects attempting to break into the drop box. A witness was able to give a description of the suspects and their vehicle as it fled the scene. 

With the help of Brenham Police Department and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle was located in Brenham and three suspects were taken into custody.

Zapalac celebrates 92nd birthday

Lou Zapalac, former owner of the Five and Dime Store in Sealy, celebrated his 92nd birthday with family and friends Monday afternoon at home. He said his favorite part of the festivities was celebrating with the friendly faces that surrounded him. Zapalac owned the Five and Dime store from 1939-1986 and then Zapalac Grocery until the ‘90s.

Russia crippled by lack of NCOs

The Russian army’s lack of noncommissioned officers is seriously hampering its efforts to swiftly conquer Ukraine, says a local veteran who saw action in the Middle East. NCOs are the glue that hold fighting forces together and ensure the supply chain is maintained, said Creighton Holub, who grew up in Wallis and graduated from Sealy High School in 1998 before joining the Army.
