The Sealy Police Department has temporarily relocated most of its operations after the discovery of extensive water damage and mold inside the building last week. The city announced, Thursday, June 18, that police operations at 1320 Rexville Road moved to the City Planning Building at 405 Main St.

Sealy Independent School District trustees unanimously approved $130,234 in repairs and improvements to the district's gymnasium facilities during a June meeting. The work includes $65,614 in repairs to the high school gymnasium roof and $64,620 in renovations and exterior improvements to the district's half-gym facility.

DFW AIRPORT –– The Sealy News won recognition this past weekend for journalism excellence and high standards of reporting in the 2025 Texas Better Newspaper Contest. Presentation of the awards took place on the last day of the Texas Newspaper Association’s annual Convention & Trade Show, held June 18-20 at the Hyatt Regency DFW International Airport.

The city of Brookshire hosted their annual Juneteenth Celebration Friday, June 19. It was a day full of activities starting with the parade through downtown Brookshire. The grand marshal was DJ Chose.

Families from across the area are invited to attend the fourth annual All for One Festival on June 27 at East Foundation Park in Sealy. The free community event, hosted by Lucky Lane, will take place from noon to 10 p.m.

The San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site is showcasing an exhibit that tells the stories of five people whose names have largely been lost to history despite their contributions to early Texas. Each of the individuals showcased in the “Stories of the Enslaved” exhibit contributed to San Felipe's early industries in ways that were crucial but often taken for granted.

After facing challenging exams and times of uncertainty, Sealy High School graduates Jackson Blanks and Kane Killough achieved acceptance into the prestigious Air Force Academy and will start boot camp later this month. The two cadets took different paths to military service and higher education.

Community members quickly stepped up to support Kate's Kans after one of the nonprofit’s food pantries was emptied just days before a ribbon-cutting ceremony in Bellville. Kate's Kans founder Kate Mize, a Sealy resident, said she learned of the incident June 9, only hours before a ribbon cutting for the pantry's newest location outside Lisa Noack State Farm at 428 E.

Sealy ISD recognized outstanding employees and celebrated years of service during its End-of-Year Awards Ceremony held before the conclusion of the 2025-26 school year. During the ceremony, the district honored recipients of its Teacher of the Year, Paraprofessional of the Year and Substitute Teacher of the Year awards.

Local churches are preparing to welcome children and families for Vacation Bible School programs this summer, offering a mix of Bible lessons, music, crafts, game and fellowship. From themed activities to opportunities for spiritual growth, area churches are inviting youngsters to participate in a tradition that has been a summer staple for generations.
