Tigers notch first district win

The Sealy Tiger basketball team picked up its first win in District 24-4A play last Friday on the road over the first-place Royal Falcons, 47-44. It was their first action in a week after the contest scheduled for last Monday in El Campo was postponed.

Sealy FFA members compete

Sealy High School senior Avery Oliver recently placed third in her class with this Simbrah heifer at the Oklahoma Cattlemen’s Congress at the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City that ran from Jan. 2 to Jan. 17.

Sealy falls in round-two opener

The Sealy Lady Tiger basketball squad opened the second round of district play with a 54-39 loss to the Royal Lady Falcons last Friday evening at home. The loss dropped Sealy to 1-5 within District 24-4A with only four games remaining in the regular season.

County talks subdivision regulations

At Monday morning’s regular meeting of the Austin County Commissioners Court, a workshop was scheduled for Feb. 8 to discuss subdivision regulations with all the new homes coming up in the county.

Knights drop contest

In their fifth regular-season game of the year, the Faith Academy Knights fell to the Cornerstone Christian Academy Cougars 64-38. The visiting Cougars held a 34-17 lead at the halftime intermission and outscored the Knights 30-21 in the second half despite a 20-point night from Faith Academy junior Kaleb Shepherd.

Three Sealy students advance to all-state

Three Sealy High School students recently earned their spot on the all-state choir and another earned an alternate position in what was one of the most successful events in school history. Ashlynn Vojtek and Cody Prause both earned third chair and RJ Wigfall secured fourth chair to punch their ticket to the top choir competition in Texas.

After the last spring sports season was cut short due to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic, the baseball season got underway at the end of last week when tryouts opened at Aubrey “Mutt” Stuessel Stadium to create the Sealy Tigers’ 2021 roster.

Tigers open district with win

The Sealy Tiger soccer team opened play within District 20-4A with a 4-1 win on the road over Hempstead last Friday. Earlier in the week, Sealy traveled to Altair to face the Rice Raiders before it hosts the Harmony School of Discovery Tigers to end this week on Friday night for the first home district game of the season.

Softball readies for scrimmage

A shift in the air has become prevalent in Wallis, with residents becoming more involved with community engagement and government involvement. The Sealy News ran a first edition in late March, highlighting three seats up for contention, contested by council newcomers and incumbent members for the upcoming city council general election on May 4.

Rogers bids farewell

Brazos Superintendent Scott Rogers admitted last week it was a hard decision for him to leave Brazos for Brooks County but in the end, family was the main reason for the move. “Making the decision to go to Brooks County was a decision that was focused on my family and that I am going back to what is called home,” Rogers said.

Early voting begins for council seats
