The Sealy Tiger basketball team picked up its first win in District 24-4A play last Friday on the road over the first-place Royal Falcons, 47-44.

It was their first action in a week after the contest scheduled for last Monday in El Campo was postponed. The Tigers bounced back from losses in their first two district contests and moved their overall record to 7-5 entering this week of play.

Royal suffered its first defeat in district play after previously beating Navasota and Wharton, who took down Sealy, as well as Bellville. The Falcons remained atop the district standings entering play on Tuesday of this week despite the blemish but were joined by the Wharton County teams in Wharton and El Campo.

The Ricebirds from El Campo only took a share of the lead after taking down the Tigers in a tight contest, 70-68, on Monday of this week. It was the postponed contest from last week but the loss brought Sealy back down to a 1-3 record in district, above only Bellville who entered this week with an 0-4 mark.

The Brahmas were Sealy’s opponent on Tuesday evening earlier this week where Bellville served as the home team before Wharton comes to town for a Saturday matchup to close this week of competition. The tilt with the Brahmas ended the first round of district play and after the game against the Wharton Tigers, only four games will remain to be played in the regular season.

Through four games in District 24, the Tigers had scored the second-fewest points (209) while having allowed the most points to district opponents (233). On the other end, El Campo had scored the most (230) and allowed the fewest (192).
