Bellville ready for opener

The Bellville Brahmanette girls’ basketball squad played their district-opening contest earlier this week on the road against the Wharton Lady Tigers who entered the week with a 3-3 record. Bellville began the week with a 4-6 overall record after dropping its previous two contests in Somerville (47- 30) and at home against Weimar (53-47).

Texans drop finale

With a last-second field goal that secured a 41-38 win for Tennessee over Houston, the Texans’ struggling season has mercifully ended with a 4-12 overall record. Because of an earlier trade for their firstand second-round picks in the upcoming draft in exchange for offensive lineman Laremy Tunsil, the Miami Dolphins will have the third overall selection in April’s draft while Houston isn’t slated to make a pick until the third round.

Random acts of kindness

Representatives from Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union are visiting businesses in Sealy to say ‘hello’ and to drop off some treats to spread goodwill and cheer not only during the holiday season but into 2021 as well. Staff at the Sealy Eye Center were recent recipients of BVSCU’s “Random Act of Kindness” when Membership Development Frank Mena dropped off some breakfast pastries during a visit on Dec. 21 to wish them a happy holiday season. With over $875 million in assets, BVSCU provides financial services such as personal, mortgage and auto loans, as well as savings and checking accounts, to over 56,000 members. BVSCU’s Sealy branch is located at 2344 Hwy 36 S. Residents who live, work, worship or attend school within the boundaries of Sealy ISD, Royal ISD and Bellville ISD are invited to join the credit union. Frank Mena, Membership Development Representatives from Brazos Valley Schools Credit Union, visited the Sealy Eye Center on Dec. 21 to drop off breakfast pastries as part of the random acts of kindness initiative to begin the year.

Daniel James Gribble has been named Director of Communications for US Congressman Troy Nehls of Texas District 22, which covers Fort Bend, Brazoria and part of Harris County. Daniel is the son of Jim and Carolyn Gribble of Brenham and the grandson of the late Herbert James and Marie Brune, lifelong residents of Sealy.
