Bellville ready for opener

The Bellville Brahmanette girls’ basketball squad played their district-opening contest earlier this week on the road against the Wharton Lady Tigers who entered the week with a 3-3 record.

Bellville began the week with a 4-6 overall record after dropping its previous two contests in Somerville (47- 30) and at home against Weimar (53-47). The Brahmanettes close this week of play by hosting the Sealy Lady Tigers who came into the week 4-7 overall. Navasota finished nondistrict play 10-7 overall and was followed closely by El Campo (8-2) and Royal (7-6).

Bellville is scheduled to close round one of district play in Navasota on Jan. 19 and will host the Rattlers to end the regular season on Feb. 5.

Brahmas enter week 3-6, won last two

On the boys’ side, the Brahmas won’t open district play until next Tuesday, Jan. 12, in El Campo before hosting Royal the following Friday. This week, the Bellville boys’ basketball team entered with a 3-6 overall record but registered a win in their previous two contests.

The Brahmas beat Snook 54-50 on Dec. 19 at home then took down Columbus 62-54 on the road on Jan. 2. Bellville hosted Somerville on Wednesday and will travel to Cuero (2-1) this Friday and follow that up with a trip to Schulenburg (5-3) on Saturday.

The Brahmas are set to wrap up the first round of district play at home against Sealy on Jan. 26 and will host the Tigers to finish the regular season on Feb. 12.
