AUSTIN — The City of Sealy continued its strong sales tax performance in June, with year-todate collections nearing an 80% increase over the same period last year, according to figures released by Acting Texas Comptroller Kelly Hancock.

Bellville man arrested on online solicitation charges

An investigation by the Bellville Police Department landed a 31-year-old man behind bars charged with online solicitation of a minor. Anthony Phearse of Bellville remained Monday in the Austin County Jail on two counts of the second degree felony in lieu of posting a $300,000 bond, according to court records.

Child grooming charge hits firefighter

A veteran Houston firefighter charged with child grooming found himself in handcuffs after a five-month investigation by the Bellville Police Department. Jason Gaines, 46, is accused of sending sexually suggestive messages to multiple juveniles over social media, according to a Police Department statement released last week.
