The high school football season kicked off across the state of Texas last Friday and all four teams in Austin County secured wins in their first games of the year. Sealy, Bellville and Faith Academy all surpassed 40 points and although Brazos only scored 23, it allowed only eight to Anderson-Shiro to seal the deal.

Lady Knights sweep Connection

The Faith Academy Lady Knight volleyball squad opened last week of play with a sweep of The Connection School before it split a doubleheader against Weimar Friday to move to 6-5 on the season. In Faith Academy’s 3-0 win over Connection (25-9, 25-19, 25-14), head coach Deborah Boudoin said the team is learning from its mistakes and shows growth in each match.

Knights win opener

The Faith Academy Knight football team opened its season in thrilling fashion with a 47-44 win over Beaumont Legacy Christian Academy, a Class 4A school. The Class 1A Knights jumped out to an early lead after a 58-yard pass from sophomore quarterback Noah Figueroa to freshman Travis Woodley on the first play from scrimmage.

The with 22 unanswered firstquarter Sealy Tigers opened their season points en route to a 43-14 win over the Brazosport Exporters last Friday night on Mark A. Chapman Field at T.J. Mills Stadium to enact revenge from the previous meeting.
Sealy freshman Ria Torres was the Lady Tigers’ top finisher in the JV girls’ race at the Frio Friday Night Lights meet at Sealy High School Aug. 20. COLE McNANNA  

Sealy wins Burton Relays

The Sealy Tiger cross country teams came away with both varsity team championships from the Burton Relays last Saturday on the road. Two teams of four Tigers and Lady Tigers were constructed by head coach Anthony Branch and assistant coach Danielle Eschenburg and while the first teams finished first in the relay races, the second teams were not far behind.
