The Sealy Economic Development Corporation Board of Directors in a split vote have nominated Sealy Main Street Director Kimbra Hill to replace EDC Executive Director Robert Worley, who is resigning for another job at the end of the month.

After envisioning an agriculture barn in town for nearly a decade, the Sealy FFA program held a ribbon-cutting event last Wednesday afternoon at Sealy High School to officially open the facility to the community.

A Houston man is in jail in Austin County awaiting trial on a charge of murder for the death of a 36-year old Sealy man. George Aguinaga was found dead at his home in the 500 block of Frydek Road on Nov.

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise in Austin County, the virus hit home for County Judge Tim Lapham. “Yes, this virus is real, I have friends who have contracted it and this weekend we lost a family member to COVID-19,” he said in his weekly report Monday.

The Sealy Lady Tiger basketball squad finished last week with only one road contest instead of two after Boling canceled the Saturday tilt but last Friday’s trip to East Bernard ended with Sealy back in the win column by a 41-36 score to move to 4-4 overall on the season.

After a trio of games last week, the Sealy Tiger basketball team entered this week at 2-2 with three games left to play before the new year and three more in January before the district-opening contest in Wharton on Jan. 12.

Mary Etta Layden (nee Grandys) of Sealy, Texas, (formally of Bonne Terre, Mo.) passed away on Dec. 4, 2020. She was born in Crown Point, Ind., to Francis and Mary Grandys on Nov. 5, 1937. She was wed to Joseph W. Layden on Feb. 8, 1958.

At a special meeting Monday night of the Sealy City Council to conduct a performance review of City Manager Lloyd Merrell, he abruptly tendered his resignation, only to have the council essentially fire him.
