Bellville and Brazos both had a lone representative at the Division 2 Texas High School Powerlifting Association State Championship at the Taylor County Expo in Abilene March 15. Alex Marek represented the Brahmas in the 198-pound weight class and finished fourth overall while Joey Townsend competed in the 165-pound weight class for the Cougars and earned 12th overall.

The Sealy Lady Tigers won the seventh annual Archie Seals Relays hosted at Bellville High School last Thursday, March 25, while the Tigers finished as runners-up. Sealy High School hosted the District 24-4A Championships this week to determine the Area qualifiers.

The Sealy Tiger spring tennis team collected top finishes from the Wharton Tournament last week and earned two gold medals, a silver medal and two more bronze medals in the antepenultimate match before the District 24-4A Championship April 12 and 13.

Sfter losing its first 10 of 11 games, the Sealy Lady Tiger softball team has now won six games in a row including the first two in district play. Sealy opened its District 24-4A slate with a 15-5, run-rule win over Wharton at home last Tuesday and followed that up with a 9-4 win over Navasota on the road the following day.

The Sealy Tiger baseball team was hoping the start of the District 24-4A slate would serve as a reset button for the club that carried a 3-14 record through non-district play following a 6-4 loss to La Grange last Thursday afternoon.

With personal records in all three lifts, Brazos senior Halie Gonzalez earned third place overall in the 181-pound weight class at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association state championships in Corpus Christi March 18.

Monday afternoon, the Sealy golf teams took on the Pecan Lakes Golf Club in Navasota for the two-round District 24-4A Championship where the top two teams or the top two individual medalists from non-advancing teams punch a ticket to regionals. The second round will be played next Monday, March 29.

The Sealy Tiger soccer teams have officially entered the postseason and will have their bi-district playoff games this Friday. The Lady Tigers will head to Cameron Yoe to face the third-place Yeomen from District 19 with kickoff set for 6 p.m.
