American Legion looks to fresh beginnings in 2024

Father Time has struck once again and we close the calendar of 2023 and open another year that brings a fresh beginning. In the east at Times Square we witness the “Ball Drop,” in the central we listen to “Nashville’s Big Bash,” in the mountains “The Mile High Tree” in Denver, and finally in the west along “Freemont Street” of Las Vegas numerous celebrations usher in the New Year with fresh beginnings.

Michael Francis McCarthy passed away on Thursday, Jan. 25, 2024, at the age of 84, at his home in Sealy, surrounded by family and friends. Thirsty Thursdays will never be the same. Mike was born on Oct. 29,1939, in Denver, CO. to Joseph Kenneth and Ethel Swain McCarthy. He was welcomed by his older sister Mary Jo, and brother David. The McCarthy family moved to Houston

Gladys Marie (Franke) Leschper, 86, of Sealy, passed away Jan. 17, 2024, in College Station. She was born Aug. 10, 1937, in Industry to Bennie and Sveedie (Koslovsky) Franke. She attended schools in New Ulm and Industry before graduating from Bellville High School in 1956.
