The city councilmembers who won the May 7 election were sworn in at the Wallis City Council meeting on May 18, and the council approved ordering two new police cars from Enterprise. Joel Prado was newly elected to the council, and Clark Main, Jr.

Sealy Independent School District employees are getting a boost to their health care coverage after trustees voted to increase the contribution by $25. Also during the May 18 meeting, the school board approved an expedited hiring schedule and provided updates on several initiatives including vocational-training programs.

The Sealy High School One Act Play group reached state competition for the second year in a row and won district for the 45th time. Ecstatic, they got to celebrate the announcement in their home auditorium, via zoom with the contest manager. This was quite the turnaround for a program that didn’t survive districts two years prior.

Sealy City Council performed the official canvassing of the votes for propositions one through five regarding City of Sealy charter amendments, which were approved by voters in the special election conducted on May 7, and officially adopted those changes into the city charter.

The Sealy High School athletics department held its annual awards night at Thomas E. Golson Auditorium last Monday, May 16. Achievements recognized ranged from honorable mention, Academic All-State, regional and state qualifiers, as well as All-Americans. Many of these athletes were a large part of the success of Sealy athletics during their four-year tenure.

I fell in love with sports as a kid while watching an electric figure by the name of Michael Jordan. His basketball skills, stardom, and sneakers made him a must-see whenever the Chicago Bulls would play. However, once I became old enough to play competitively, there was a fellow by the name of Tracy McGrady of the Houston Rockets who I grew to pattern my skills after.
