Our dear mother, Edith Jeannette Kleypas Fiedler, age 93, was a loving wife, grandmother, greatgrandmother, and friend. She slipped away peacefully at home on August 9, 2022. She will be laid to rest on August 15, the very same date that her own dear mother was interred 30 years ago. Edith was born September 28, 1928, in Burlington, Texas to Bernard Gerard Kleypas and Nettie Marie West Kleypas. She married her beloved husband Raymond Charles Fiedler, on a cold Thanksgiving morning, November 25, 1948, which resulted in 56 years of a harmonious marriage and seven devoted children.

Heavy rains through Texas last week caused flooding, particularly in the Dallas area, prompting Gov. Greg Abbott to issue a disaster declaration for 23 affected counties.

Melvin Ray Klatt, Sr., passed from this life on Aug. 23, 2022, at the age of 84, at his home in Sealy in the presence of loved ones. His battle with various medical issues in recent years showed his courage in facing difficult challenges with strength and determination.

Despite not taking place on a tropical island in the Pacific Ocean, the luau-themed dinner event held by the Wallis Chamber of Commerce Saturday, April 27, was a success, complete with a hula dancer performance and a “who’s who” of prominent Austin County figures in attendance. The Wallis Columbus Hall, located at 703 Columbus Road, was filled with local politicians and business owners, including Austin County Judge Tim Lapham, Tax-Collector Assessor and Election Official Kim Rinn, County Commissioner Precinct 4 Chip Reed, and Wallis City Council Members Melissa McFarland, Bernadette Parr, and Joell Prado.

The Sealy High School volleyball team returned to action at home to face Cypress Lakes High School Aug. 23, improving to a 13-7 overall record.

Saturday, Aug. 27, The Brazos Cougars cross country team competed in the Brazos High School Invitational Cross Country Meet. Rain showers prior to the event made the course muddy, however participants still managed to compete.

Charley Joseph Burchfield, 80, of Sealy, TX, was called home to be with our Lord on August 24, 2022. He was born in Palestine, TX on February 1, 1942, to Burdon Eugene Burchfield and Eunice Mae Griffin. After high school, Charley enlisted in the United States Air Force and served for twenty years working in munitions and communications. While he was stationed in Watertown, NY, he met the love of his life, Helen Cecelia Torrey, and they wed in 1964. They have four children: Rebecca, Jeffery, Joanne and Rachel.

The Sealy High School Tigers varsity football team began their season with a win at home against the Brazosport High School Exporters Friday night, Aug. 26.
