Figueroa earns second at state

Faith Academy of Bellville student-athletes traveled to Cleburne on Saturday, April 17, to compete in the Texas Association of Independent Athletic Organizations (TAIAO) State Track and Field Meet. 16 schools, track clubs and homeschooler groups were represented at the meet.

Knight freshman Noah Figueroa, who is coached by Keith Hite, competed against 10 throwers in the discus event and brought home the state runner-up medal after he placed second overall with a throw of 100’ 6”. He was determined to return with more than one medal and earned bronze in the shot put with a length of 31’ 2.5” to earn a second top-three finish.

The Faith Academy male runners were unable to place in the top six but recorded some personal best times. Joshua Bright finished the 1600-meter run in 5:20 and placed eighth out of 19 runners. Beck Briggs ran the 200-meter dash in 26.50 and placed 10th out of 21 runners. Bright also placed 12th out of 21 in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:23 and Briggs was ninth out of 22 in the 400-meter dash with a 58:82.

The lone Lady Knights representative, Summer Bright, earned a fifth-place finish in the 3200-meter run in her final race of the season.

“They had a successful season and were fortunate to be able to compete,” head coach Ann Howarth said.
