The Sealy Lady Tiger basketball squad reached the district portion of its schedule earlier this week on a road trip to Brookshire to face the Royal Lady Falcons in the first game in the new District 24-4A.

Sealy entered with a 4-7 record after non-district play finished with losses to Brazosport (72-51) and Schulenburg (47-32) last week on Dec. 28 and 29. Following Tuesday’s tilt with Royal – who entered the week with a 7-6 record – the Lady Tigers will travel to Bellville this Friday to face the Brahmanettes who finished non-district play at 4-6.

Contests with Wharton (home), Navasota (away) and El Campo (home) will wrap up the first round of district play with round two set for Jan. 22 at home against Royal. The district finale is set for Feb. 5 in El Campo.

Junior guard Evelyn Harrington led the way offensively and registered 15.3 points per game over the 11 non-district contests. Seniors Brylie Bond (8.2 points per game) and Heaven Hernandez (8.1 points per game) both averaged more than eight points in 11 and seven games played, respectively.

Harrington also led in rebounds with 75 total – 55 defensive and 20 offensive – with sophomore Jasmyne Joiner (55 total rebounds) and senior Avery Oliver (45 total rebounds) next. Senior Megan Schaaf also recorded over 40 boards with 42 total rebounds to go along with 50 total points for 4.5 points per game.

Senior Eastlynn Cloud (20 points, 22 rebounds) and junior Alexa Hernandez (14 points, 15 rebounds) recorded time in seven games apiece and junior Julia Jurecka registered 18 rebounds and 12 points in 11 games.

Bond led the team in steals (18) and charges drawn (7) and totaled 36 rebounds and 11 assists. Schaaf also recorded 11 assists and added 14 steals and two charges drawn while Oliver led with nine blocks to go along with 30 total points, 10 assists and five steals in 10 games.

Harrington’s 29 total assists were also a team-best and she recorded 17 deflections and steals each and Joiner totaled 20 points, seven steals, four assists and a block. Juniors Darrel’Nae Johnson (8 points, 4 rebounds, 1 block in 4 games) and Ariel Gonzales (11 rebounds, 4 steals, 1 block in 5 games) were call-ups from the junior varsity midway through the non-district portion.
