Sam Houston senior Clayton Fritsch not only claimed the Western Athletic Conference pole vault championship last weekend in New Mexico but he also set the conference’s all-time indoor record and the meet record with a final clearance of 18’ 9.5” (5.73m).

Fritsch, a member of Sealy High School’s Class of 2017, also extended his indoor school record, which was set the previous meet, Feb. 11 (18’ 6.5” – 5.65m) and served as automatic qualification to the USA Track and Field Indoor Championship in Spokane, WA this weekend.

The Bearkats were the third-place squad in the men’s team competition supplemented by another Sealy High School alum, Luke Thielemann (C/O 2020), who took fifth place in the men’s weight throw with a distance of 57’ 3” (17.45m). The mark set his personal-best distance with an improvement of more than four feet (~1.2m).
