The Faith Academy Lady Knight basketball squad hosted the Cornerstone Christian Academy last Thursday, Jan. 21, for the teams’ second and final meeting of the regular season and the visitors walked away with a 34-19 victory.

Faith Academy head girls’ basketball coach Terri Tomlinson said the team fought hard but got outscored 25-3 in the second and third quarters and could not overcome the deficit.

“One thing you can say about these young ladies is that they battle to the very end and will take on any challenge,” Tomlinson said.

After the first frame, the score was tied at 7 but entering the fourth quarter the scoreboard read 35-10.

The Lady Knights outscored the visitors 9-2 in the final frame thanks in part to a 9-point, 5-rebound effort from Chesney Johnston. Rachel Kuespert earned player of the week honors for her five points and five rebounds, Reagan Shepherd registered six rebounds and Lily Lequerica added five points.

Faith Academy was back in action earlier this week on the road at Fayetteville High School and will travel to the Houston Adventist Academy for its next contest next Thursday, Feb. 4.
