The Brazos Cougarette track team finished third at the District 24-3A Championship in East Bernard last week and had five individual athletes plus the 4x400-meter relay team qualify for the area meet this week.

Esmeralda Garcia (800-, 1600- and 3200-meter runs), Sophia Vykukal (high jump), Rubi Garcia (1600- and 3200-meter runs), Haiven Harris (100-meter dash), Aubani Cormier (300-meter hurdles) and the 4x400-meter relay team of Harris, Denise Hauer, Sylvia Lopez and Jemma Zahradnik all registered topfour finishes in their events to move onto the next round.

Although the Cougars did not have any area qualifiers, the athletes wrapped up their season on a high note with finishes just outside the podium.

Wesley Holub took fifth in the 1600-meter run, Kasey Zientek registered sixth in shot put and 10th in discus, Hayden Vykukal finished seventh in shot put and eighth in discus and Bryan Pedroza recorded a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run.

In addition to the area-qualifying Cougarettes, the 4x100-meter relay team of Cormier, Harris, Alana Kinsey and Zahradnik finished fifth, Rubi Garcia took sixth in the 800-meter run and Vykukal was sixth in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles.
