The Sealy News is turning 135 years old March 12!

It is amazing to be part of such a historical business. We get the privilege to record the history of Austin County from election coverage to historic freezing storm coverage to the 100th birthday of our community members.

We see the growth in our small town every day with new businesses, housing construction and our seniors graduating. Even after local high schoolers leave the county, we always appreciate following up on their successes elsewhere.

In efforts to preserve that history, we have been working closely with the Austin County Historical Society, the San Felipe de Austin State Historic Site, the Gordon Memorial Library and the University of North Texas, among others, to digitize our print archives. While we appreciate the physical record books, we are excited to share access to editions from previous decades with interested readers from around the world. Check out Page 11 for some more information.

As we reflect on another year of chronicling Austin County, I want to thank all of our sponsors who have continued to support our local sections that highlight our community.

A big thank you is in order to our loyal readers for picking up your local paper weekly. We love seeing all your smiling faces coming into our office!

I can’t wait to see what the future holds for The Sealy News and Austin County. Thanks for 135 great years and here’s to even more.
