Johnnie Lee “Buck” Fountain died on Friday, February 19, 2021. He was 80 years old. Johnnie was a long-time resident of Sealy, Texas, for almost 44 years. Johnnie was born to Claude and Ola May Fountain on August 28, 1940, in Starks, Louisiana. He attended and graduated from Starks High School. Johnnie met his wife, Doris Ann Zapalac, from Sealy, Texas, and shortly wed at St. Jerome Catholic Church in Houston, Texas, on November 28, 1964. They were married for 57 years. They lived in Spring Branch for 13 years before moving to Sealy in 1977, where they made their lifelong home. Johnnie and Doris have two children: Kimberly LaShalle Rychlik and her husband, Garrett, of Cypress and Shannon Le’Nae and her husband, Everett Bubak, of Sealy.

Johnnie was so blessed and proud of his five grandchildren: Jordan and Austin Rychlik of Cypress, Cody Manna and Emerson Bubak of Sealy, and Aaron Bubak from Mont Belvieu, TX. Johnnie was preceded in death by his parents: Claude and Ola May Fountain; and brothers: Clettis “Moon” Fountain, Ernest “Dude” Fountain, and Clifford “Tip” Fountain.

Johnnie worked for Texas Metal Fabricating for over 30 years and then worked for ATI machine shop until retirement.

He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, watching Tiger Football, and having his coffee at Tony’s Restaurant. While he still could, he and Doris loved to take cruises and did that often. He had a heart of gold and was loved by many.

His kindness, smile, and generosity will be truly missed by his children, grandchildren, extended family and the many friends he had in Sealy and the surrounding areas.

Johnnie leaves behind his extended family, including his brother: Larry Joe Fountain of Starks, LA.; his sister: Betty Joe and Ronnie Albert of Athens, TN.; his sister: Sharon Rose Gore from Bridge City; and in-laws: Lawrence and Jeanette Drews from Brenham, Gregg and Debra Zook from Orchard, David & Theresa Zapalac of Houston, James & Laverne Zapalac of New Ulm, Dennis & Janette Zapalac of Livingston, and Johnny Steve Zapalac of Katy. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2021, at the Schmidt Funeral Home in Bellville, where Rosary was recited at 3:00 p.m.

A Funeral Service was held at 3:30 p.m., at the Schmidt Funeral Home, with Deacon Robert Kent officiating. Interment followed in Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Sealy.

Pallbearers were Dennis Manna, Edward “Cookie” Schoppe, Gregg Zook, Lawrence Drews, Sr., Lawrence Drews, Jr., Brian Drews, Ronnie Albert, and Larry Joe Fountain.

Honorary Pallbearers were his grandchildren: Jordan and Austin Rychlik, Cody Manna, Emerson and Aaron Bubak.
