JOE JOHN CEVALLOS SR.

1950- 2023

On Friday, May 19, 2023, Joe John Cevallos, Sr., 73, of Sealy, Texas, passed away peacefully surrounded in love by his wife and children.

Joe was born Jan. 19, 1950, to Andres, Sr. and Carolina Garcia Cevallos in Turkey, TX. He was the oldest of six children. Joe graduated from Clermont High School in Florida.

Joe met his wife of 52 years at the age of 16, while attending high school in Seguin, TX. Esmeralda “Lala” Sauceda and Joe’s paths would cross several times in different cities and states over the years. They wed Dec. 5, 1970, in Bellville, TX. He joined the United States Army shortly after in 1971. Later, Joe entered the workforce, where he was employed with the United States Postal Service and Toyota.

He was a humble and all-around good person. He was quiet when he needed to be, and he was a force to be reckoned with when the situation called for it. Joe was a loving son, brother, husband, father, Popo, uncle, and friend.

He valued family above all else. You could see this in his relationship with his parents, siblings, and children. Throughout his life, he would make sure by his actions that the bond and importance of family would last post his lifetime.

Joe was a strong loving, but firm father to his six children. He loved them unconditionally. Joe saw the uniqueness of each of his children and made sure each one of them had what they needed from their father. He gave of himself selflessly.

Joe loved working in his yard, and tending to his plants, and roses, until his health would not allow him to continue what he loved doing. He looked forward to going gambling with his entire family and visiting his cousins. They would gather to play games with everyone on a regular basis. His laugh was contagious. He loved listening to music; and it showed in his passion for dancing. He and Lala would glide as one across the dance floor just like they did in their life together.

Joe is survived by his loving and dedicated wife: Lala Cevallos of Sealy; daughters: Roxanne (Bobby) of North Pole, Alaska, Nicole (Fernando Lopez) Cevallos of Sealy; and Monica May of Bellville; sons: Joe (Martha) Cevallos, Jr. of Sealy, Josh Cevallos of Sealy, and Noel Cevallos of Sealy; fifteen grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; siblings: Chela (Duane) Herndon, Mary (Daniel Shimek) Harrell, Carrie (Dwayne) Vitek, Freddie (Renea) Cevallos, and Rosa Cevallos; and numerous other family and dear friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Andres, Sr. and Carolina Cevallos; and brother: Andres Cevallos, Jr.

“With every sunset we are one day closer to seeing you again.”
