CAROLYN SUE GREGORCYK
CAROLYN SUE GREGORCYK
Carolyn Sue Gregorcyk (nee Goebel) passed away suddenly on May 28, 2026 from complications of a brief illness and our hearts are shattered. She was the wife of Joseph (Joe) Gregorcyk and the daughter of Alfred Goebel and Bonnie Adele Sternberg of Millheim. Raised in the Millheim community by her mother Bonnie and stepfather Charles Ulrich, she was a member of Sts Peter and Paul Catholic Church and a graduate of Bellville High School, Blinn Junior College and the University of Texas at Austin where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree in December 1988.
Upon graduation, she was employed as an RN at the Brown School in Austin, where she tenderly cared for children, adolescents and adults suffering from traumatic brain injuries. Known for her quiet soothing voice and gentle touch, she excelled in her position which was both rewarding and emotional for a compassionate soul like hers.
It was this caring nature that brought her back to the family dairy in Millheim in 1994 to help with her critically ill mother.
During this time, she found employment as a registered nurse with Brenham State Supported Living Center, then known as Brenham State School, where she often brought clients home to the dairy to meet her vast collection of animals.
In 1999 she married Joe Gregorcyk, and they spent many happy days on her acres of “Goebel Family Farm,” a tract purchased by her late grandfather George Goebel in the 1920s. Especially after retiring from the State of Texas in 2015, Sue enjoyed simple country living with Joe as they nurtured flowers, butterflies, hummingbirds, horses, goats, rabbits and the occasional cow, always in the company of one to five dogs. A lifelong dog lover, her stepfather Charles, used to say you never saw that child with less than one dog in her lap and two at her feet!
Sue also had a passion for travel, especially Galveston and Savannah, Georgia. She took day trips to Houston with her brothers Jerry Goebel and John Ulrich for dinner and a movie and relaxed at bed and breakfasts in various towns with her sister Mary Ulrich Jackson as they searched for the best tea rooms, boutiques and antiques.
Her beloved Joe was her best travel companion, as they took many leisurely drives for lunch, thrift shopping and scouting out treasures at Round Top. She loved decorating her home and garden for the holidays, and Joe hauled many pumpkins to their gate!
She never forgot a birthday, and her siblings were thrilled when she would show up at their door with their childhood favorite, usually a chocolate cake with our mother’s special sugar cream icing and pecans! A gentle soul who cherished her family, she grieved the loss of each one, profoundly. It is our whispered prayer and daily hope that she is now joyously reunited with them all.
Sue is preceded in death by her father, Alfred Goebel, mother, Bonnie Goebel Ulrich, stepfather Charles Ulrich, and brothers, Jerry “Butch” Goebel and John Ulrich. Alive to cherish her memory are her husband Joe Gregorcyk, sister Mary Ulrich Jackson and husband Bob Jackson, nephews Kenny Drozd, Charles Clough, Ulrich Goebel, Garen Goebel and Bryn Goebel, nieces Cindy Fulmer, Lisa Koret, Kathleen Clough, Amiel King, Amrah Sanchez, Abby Goebel, Amy Jackson and Bonnie Jackson. She is also survived by cousins in both Texas and Wisconsin. A private gathering with the burial of her ashes in Millheim Cemetery will take place at a later date. Contributions in her memory to the animal shelter of your choice, would be an honor to her memory and comfort to us all. Mostly, Aunt Sue would want you to google a “Southern funeral food” recipe to share with your loved ones at home in her memory, and make it fattening!
