Alvin (Al) Konvicka, Jr. passed from this life at home surrounded by family on January 26, 2021, at the age of 76 years after a courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.

Al was born October 26, 1944 in East Bernard, Texas, to parents Alvin Sr. and Agnes Konvicka and was raised in Sealy. He married Bertha (Sissy) Konvicka on September 26, 1961, a loving marriage that would last for 59 years until his passing. He started early in the restaurant business and then moved on to construction where he was a master at operating heavy equipment. He and Sissy opened Sissy’s Fried Chicken in Sealy, followed by restaurants in East Bernard and Kendleton. He also worked at the W.A. Parish power plant in Thompson until retire ment. After retiring he started Sealy Portable Buildings and NuJohn’s Septic Systems. He was strong, resourceful, with a quick wit, a bit of sarcasm, and a positive attitude. He built the family home, brick by brick, with chipped marble faced concrete blocks he molded himself. Early on he wrote and recorded songs. He enjoyed collecting rocks and coins, bird watching, family trips, and spending time with his granddaughters, especially teaching them how to cook.

Al is survived by his wife, Sissy Konvicka; children, Peggy Reid and husband Joe, Mark Konvicka, Karen Ripple and husband John; brothers, David Konvicka and wife Elaine, and Steven Konvicka; brother-in-law, Walter Schmiz; grandchildren, Brittni Cryan and husband AJ, Lauren Ripple, Holli Ripple, and Jill Thompson and husband Jacob; nieces and nephews, Glen Konvicka and wife Theresa, Dwayne Konvicka and wife Yannie, Michael Konvicka and wife Anita, Kristy Cade and husband Joe, and Tina Alley; and many great nieces and nephews and cousins.

Funeral services were held at Knesek Bros. Funeral Chapel located at 1140 Hwy 36 in Sealy on Monday, February 1, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., where visitation was one hour prior. Interment followed at Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery.
