Caleb Smidt’s tie-down roping competition at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is underway. He won the second round in the Super Series I last Tuesday and qualified for Semifinal 1 scheduled for March 16.

The bracket-style tournament takes the top finishers from five three-round Super Series and sets up two semifinal groupings. The top four will advance to the Championship round while the bottom six will be relegated to the Wild Card. Four from each Semifinal and two Wild Cards ride once in the Championship round then the top four in each event ride again in the Shootout for champion titles.

In between last week’s run and next Wednesday’s competition, Smidt worked in a tie-down roping title at The American Rodeo in Dallas. Smidt won the Contender round in 7.33 seconds then finished second in the Finals in 7.34 seconds before a Championship run of 6.87 seconds for a $100,000 prize.
