Marie Josephine (Surovcak) Stastny, born March 17, 1926, on St. Patrick’s Day, in Sealy, Texas to Martin and Frances (Machala) Surovcak, passed away peacefully at Arbor Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Eagle Lake, Texas, on Dec. 13, 2024.

Marie had a love and curiosity for learning. Marie enjoyed reading, sewing, quilting, playing bingo, cards and dominos, dancing to waltzes and polkas, tending to her beautiful red roses, and volunteering and donating to various causes and organizations.

Marie began married life on Nov. 12, 1946, as a homemaker but later worked at Sealy Mattress Company, Sealy School Cafeteria, and The Flower Shop. Marie also volunteered her time to many organizations including Good Samaritan Shop, Sealy Christian Pantry, Immaculate Conception Church (Bereavement Dinners), CCD (Room Mother), Parish Council, KJZT Catholic Fraternal of Texas (Jr. Director) and American Legion Auxiliary (Poppy Chairman). Moreover, Marie was a member of Immaculate Conception Church, Altar Society, KJZT Family Life Society #42 and Sealy American Legion Auxiliary #442.

Marie is survived by her daughter and son-inlaw Jeanette and Robert “Dennis” Klekar, her daughter and son-in-law Lorine and Leroy Rogers, her son and daughter- in-law Cyril, Jr. and Lois Stastny, her daughter Rose Stastny, her grandchildren Melissa Shinn (Jerry), Matthew Rogers, Holly Rogers, Ryan Klekar (Crystal), Crystal White (Brandon), Cyril III, Cami Golla (Jeremiah) and Luke Stastny, and her greatgrandchildren Peyton, Benjamin, Bailey, Bailey, Tristan, Tyler, Kyndal, Brooklyn, Carter, Bellamy and Beckett. She is also survived by her sister Frances Wolf and her sister-in-law Beatrice Surovcak.

Marie was preceded in death by her husband Cyril Stastny, Sr., her parents Martin and Frances (Machala) Surovcak, her father-in-law and mother- in-law Jan and Terezie (Brhel) Stastny, her sister and brother-in-law Henrietta and Dennis Krchnak, her brother and sisterin- law Frank and Bonnie Surovcak, her brother William Surovcak, her brother-in-law Lacy Wolf, Sr., her granddaughter Jill Rogers, her grandsonin- law Eric Rodriguez and her granddaughter-in-law Cacey Stastny.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, December 19, 2024, at The Immaculate Conception Church (ICC) of Sealy with a visitation at 1:30 pm, a rosary at 2:30 p.m. (led by Bernice Novosad of KJZT #42) and a mass at 3 p.m. (officiated by Father Wayne Wilkerson, Deacon Robert Kent, Deacon Ben Munguia, and Chris Nava of ICC). A luncheon following the burial was provided and served by the Ladies of the Parish.
