TABETHA ANN (WARREN) PETERSON
On Dec. 15, 2024, the world lost “Tabby”, an incredible individual. Tabby was born Oct. 10, 1972 to Cheryl (Drake) and William Warren in Houston, Texas. She attended Elrod and Alexander Elementary Schools, Fondren Middle School, and Westbury Senior High school -all in Houston. She held several jobs at places such as Arby’s, Taco Bell, Baskin Robbins and OSI Collections before becoming a veterinary technician in Houston. It was in 2001 that she joined the Houston Police Department as a night shift stable attendant, working at the HPD Mounted Patrol Headquarters. She later transferred to the HPD Westside Command station where she continued working on night shift as a Data Entry Operator. She would later start clearing low priority calls over the phone for the night shift dispatchers, thus keeping patrol officers in the call for service loop. Indeed, she excelled at this and enjoyed her job very much.
She was passionate about The Renaissance and Renaissance Faires. She attended the Texas Renaissance Festival for over 30 years, for which she would always “don her garb”. She was one of the original members of the “Red Star” and “Chaos” guilds, and regularly attended the Texas Renaissance Festival where she obtained her “faire name” of “TabbyCat”. Upon the dissolution of Red Star, she became a member of “The Claw” guild. At the Sherwood Forest Faire, near Austin, she became known as “The Peacock Lady” for her ornate dress she sometimes wore that contained over 1000 peacock feathers-which she had designed and spent almost a year making. She had most recently taken up archery and was planning on competing at the Sherwood Forest Faire in March, 2025.
It is an understatement to say that Tabby was a genius at creativity. She most enjoyed making items out of resin, painting, drawing, wood burning, designing/sewing renaissance dresses and head pieces, beading, and leatherwork. Perhaps her greatest skill in all this is that she was able to turn the most mundane of objects into works of art. Truly, she often saw beauty where others saw nothing.
Perhaps her greatest love was as a “Foster Mom” for CAPS (Citizens for Animal Protection Services) in Houston. She specialized in raising neo-natal kittens and was called upon numerous times to try to save them. Very rarely would Tabby turn them down (and many times she would drop everything to run to the rescue). Tending to her “fur babies” gave her so much joy. It’s estimated that in her 9+ years as a “foster mom” for CAPS, she attended to over 100 kittens- the vast majority neo-natal.
Tabby also enjoyed camping, fishing, and ocean cruises -and had most recently taken her biggest one: a twoweek trip around the British Isles. She even had a New Year’s cruise planned, but it simply wasn’t to be.
She leaves behind her husband, Vance; Her Mother and Step-father; her sister, Tina; 2 nieces and 2 nephews; 3 step-children; 2 Grandchildren; 6 cats (especially Archimedes, her favorite); and many friends.
A “Celebration of Life” is pending. In lieu of flowers or gifts, she had requested that donations in her name be sent to CAPS (17555 Katy Fwy. Houston, TX 77094 or www.cap4pets. org).
