San Felipe subdivision annexed
The San Felipe Town Council approved the annexation of the Wildcat subdivision after March 8’s public hearing.
The Wildcat subdivision, commonly known as Wildcat Estates, consists of 94.156 acres with 50 of those acres already within the city limits of San Felipe. San Felipe is set to gain about 40 acres following the annexation. In the future, however, there may be issues regarding Extra-Territorial Jurisdictions (ETJ) – an “unincorporated area that is contiguous to the corporate boundaries” of a city – between Sealy and San Felipe.
One presented reason for the annexation was to develop the land in San Felipe. In order to develop the area, the San Felipe Town Council would have to approve subdivision ordinances, reviews and approvals. At the public hearing, the voluntary annexation of the property was discussed. Several questions were asked at the public hearing, including about drainage, responsibility for roads and the number of acres to be annexed by San Felipe.
A motion was made by Alderman Sandra Brooks and seconded by Alderman Alfred Hall to approve the annexation of Wildcat Subdivision into San Felipe after the hearing was closed. The motion was approved unanimously.
