The National Weather Service announced another Special Weather Statement at 3:40 p.m.

“Doppler radar was tracking strong thunderstorms along a line extending from 8 miles northeast of Columbus to 15 miles northwest of El Campo to near Ganado to near Palacios. Movement was west at 30 mph,” it says.

Locations included El Campo, Sealy, Edna, Palacios, Columbus, Eagle Lake, Weimar and New Ulm, among others.

“If on or near Lake Texana, get out of the water and move indoors or inside a vehicle. Remember, lightning can strike out to 10 miles from the parent thunderstorm,” it continues. “If you can hear thunder, you are close enough to be struck by lightning. Move to safe shelter now! Do not be caught on the water in a thunderstorm.”
