Wednesday afternoon, Sealy ISD announced the passing of a Sealy High School student.

SISD Superintendent Bryan Hallmark confirmed Thursday morning an off-campus incident resulted in the death of a student.

“Unfortunately, when a tragedy like that happens, it’s immediately, ‘How can we support people,’” Hallmark said. “We have a lot of resources that are available to us through our education service center, Region 6 has a team that’s ready to respond. If we need additional counselors, some of our neighbors like Bellville graciously have counselors on standby to help in the event that we need it.”

Hallmark said because of testing, not every student was set to come to campus April 7 but contact has been made with families in the district.

“Because not all of our kids were scheduled to attend school today because of testing, but all of our parents have been notified who they can call, where they can come, where they can go for additional resources if it’s after hours,” Hallmark said Thursday.

As the district takes its next steps in response, the superintendent had a message for the community.

“The main thing is to keep that family in your thoughts and prayers. It’s obviously going to be a very difficult time for them to navigate,” Hallmark said. “One thing I love about this community is we support each other. And I know we will in this case.”
