Three suspects accused of catalytic convert theft were arrested by Sealy Police at approximately 3:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19 after an observant neighbor notified the police of suspicious activity, according to the Sealy Police Department.

“The neighbor observed a subject under a vehicle in a parking lot and believed that they were stealing a catalytic converter so she reported the incident and gave a vehicle description,” SPD said Wednesday morning. “Within approximately 30 seconds of receiving the call, a Sealy Police Officer observed the suspects leaving the parking lot and stopped the vehicle.”

The suspects’ vehicle contained, “the stolen catalytic converters, the reciprocating saw used to cut off the part and two handguns,” according to the release.

After an investigation, the Sealy Police confirmed three Houston area residents were arrested and charged with "Felony Theft, Unlawful Use of a Criminal Instrument, Engaging in Organized Criminal Activity and Unlawful Carrying Weapon."

"This crime may have gone unsolved if not for the neighbor who reported the suspicious activity. We can’t say it enough but if you see something, say something! When the citizens and the police department work together the city is safer for everyone,” concluded the SPD’s post.
