The Austin County Fair Association is pleased to announce the 2021 Austin County Fair Association scholarship application is now available to all graduating high school seniors in the county. Applications are due to the fair office no later than the first Friday in April, which falls on April 2 this year.

The Austin County Fair has been awarding scholarships in memory of deceased directors and deceased director’s spouses since 1992. The Fair Association takes great pride in giving back to the students from our community for their hard work and dedication that they have shown throughout the years.

The Austin County Fair Memorial Scholarships are funded from money raised throughout the year through various activities and the support of the community and dedicated board members. Included in the scholarships awarded are:

The Harold Luhn Agricultural Memorial Scholarship will be presented to an exhibitor who is planning to pursue a career in agriculture. Harold Luhn was an active member of the Fair Association and believed that the youth of Austin County would forever be our future. The Harold Luhn Memorial Scholarship is endowed by Chuck & Rita Scianna.

The Ed Michalke Memorial Scholarship will be given in memory of Ed Michalke. Mr. Michalke was a longtime supporter of the Austin County Fair Association since the mid 60’s working with Austin County 4-H and FFA students. For 30 years, Ed Michalke was a familiar face with the Fair Association serving as security for the fair. The Ed Michalke Memorial Scholarship is endowed by the Michalke Family.

The Judy Tiemann Memorial scholarship will be awarded to an exhibitor that has been involved in the Calf Scramble program. Judy Tiemann was a director of the Fair Association in 1997-2006 and was the founder of the Austin County Fair Calf Scramble program. Judy began this program in 1990 with the purpose of teaching exhibitors the importance of the beef industry. This program continues to strive to this day because of her dedication to the youth.

The Austin County Fair Association works hard all year committing many countless volunteer hours working towards their goal of continuing to raise scholarships. The Austin County Fair Association has awarded $839,500 in scholarships since 1992.
