Cypress Christian hosted the final regular-season track and field meet of the season last week where Faith Academy of Bellville athletes competed.

Teams will now be heading into their postseason district meets. The Knights will train another three weeks before attending the TAIAO State Meet in Keene, near Cleburne, May 7.

Faith Academy was one of 20 schools that attended the Cypress Christian meet and as a Class 1A school, faced difficult competition from private schools from Class 3A-6A.

Senior Nathan Figueroa stood up to the challenge and placed second in the shot put with a personal-record throw of 41’ 11” to break his own school record. He also recorded a PR in the discus throw with a length of 116’ 10”.

Sophomore Summer Bright finished fifth in the 3200-meter run.

Although four more Knight athletes placed outside the top six, they all set personal records to close the season: Joshua Bright in the 1600-meter run (5:17.14), Luke Wicklein in the 400-meter dash (58.74), Elizabeth Walker in the pole vault (7’ 6”) and Noelle Walker in the 400-meter dash (1:13.97) and 200-meter dash (31.10).

Faith Academy athletes that will travel to the TAIAO Meet in May will be Nathan Figueroa, Noah Figueroa, Luke Wicklein, Austin Browning, Elizabeth Walker and Noelle Walker.
