Helen Melnar Ondruch, 88, of Wallis passed away unexpectedly on July 24, 2022, in Katy, Texas. She was born in Wallis on May 31, 1934, to parents Alfonse J and Mary Stavinoha Melnar. She lived her entire life here where she attended Guardian Angel Catholic School & Wallis public school.

Helen met her future husband Jerry J Ondruch of Frydek at a dance at Mixville Hall. On May 11, 1953, they were married at Guardian Angel Catholic Church in Wallis.

Helen worked at City Meat Market for over 25 years in the meat department and as a cashier. During those years, she worked for Frank & Gloria Mikes, Virgil & Wila Tanner, and Dale Dycus. She was fortunate to also work with her nephews Robbie and Terry Melnar and Dennis Manna. In addition to being a homemaker, she enjoyed cooking, gardening, yard work, and making kolaches with her daughter. Along with all that, she was a farmer’s wife and helped her husband and son whenever she was needed, if it was helping them move equipment from field to field or running the cotton module builder, she did it too. She enjoyed being around her family as well as watching the Houston Astros and Dallas Cowboys.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court Queen of Angels #1538 (65), the American Legion Auxiliary Post #200 (59), the KJZT Society #22 (79), Altar Society and past member of the Rosary makers. Preceded in death by her husband and parents; in-laws Stella and Joe Ondruch; siblings and spouses Mildred and Charley Janik, Alfonse W and Madelyn Melnar, Bennie and Joan Melnar; brothers-inlaw Eddie Nowak, Bill Wren, Jerry Manna and Dominick Zientek; and nephew Benjie Melnar. Survived by her son Jerry Allen Ondruch; daughter Darlene and husband John;and grandson Jacob Berlin; sister Georgia Wren; sisters-in-law Lillian Zientek and Evelyn Manna along with many nieces and nephews. She will be dearly missed.
