Bernard Frank Marek, Jr., son of Bernard & Annie Laurie Marek, was born July 24, 1945, in Oceanside, California. His parents moved to Wallis, Texas when he was 2 weeks old. He passed away on July 11, 2022, at the age of 76.

Bernard was preceded in death by his lifetime sweetheart of 54 years, Janie Marek. He is survived by daughter Connie Hawley and her husband, Michael, along with his granddaughter, Lauren Hawley; daughter Christina Stauber and her husband Peter; brother Don Marek and wife Patsy; sister Marianne Marek; nephew Dwight Marek and niece Stephanie Freethy.

Bernard graduated from Wallis High School in 1963 and obtained an Associate Degree from WCJC. He was a Vietnam War Veteran serving in the US Army from 1966 to1972. He and Janie raised their family in Sugar Land, Texas. However, Bernard’s career as an oil and gas engineer had him working in Saudi Arabia, Dubai, and Singapore and took the entire family to live abroad in Stavanger, Norway. He loved history and collected coins, stamps, antique tools, and the family genealogy. He served as an active member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion, and loved working Bingo and the Lenten Fish Frys. Everyone who met Bernard knew him as a loving and good man.

Visitation was held July 15 from 5 to 7 p.m. and was followed by Rosary at Knesek and Sons Funeral Home in Wallis. On July 16 a 10 a.m. Mass and 11 a.m. funeral service was be held at Guardian Angel Church in Wallis. A celebration of life followed at the American Legion Hall.
