ALEXANDER WIED 1935- 2023

Alexander Franklin Wied, 87, of Alleyton, TX, passed away on April 18, 2023, in Columbus.

He was born on Aug. 16, 1935, to Alex William Wied and Leona (Coufal) Wied in Brenham, Texas.

He spent time in the U S Army from 1958 to 1962. On Aug. 20, 1964, he married Melba Suzanne Wright.

Alex completed his doctorate in education at North Texas State University and taught at Sul Ross State University. He accepted a teaching position at Northwestern State University in 1974 and settled in Leesville, Louisiana for 40 years.

He was referred to as “Doc” and known by his students and colleagues as a charismatic professor who infused fun into his classes and everywhere he went.

He was a member of Church of Christ in Sealy and the Shelby American Legion.

Alex was a collector of tractors, equipment, and of friends. He never met a stranger, and he went out of his way to help people. He will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Alex is survived by his wife of fifty-eight years, Melba Wied; daughter Suzanne Marie Wied of Fulshear; brother John William Wied and wife Joyce of La Grange; grandchildren Elsie and Lucas Korczynski.

He was preceded in death by his parents Alex and Leona Wied; brothers Jay Wied, Perry Wied, and Larry Wied.

Burial took place in Haw Creek Cemetery in Willow Springs, Tx.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at 2:30 p.m. at Sealy Church of Christ in Sealy.
