Tigers celebrate iconic major stock show season
Spring Break packed in a world of opportunities for Sealy FFA Tigers raising livestock to show at the major stock shows. Students spend months dedicated to the success of preparing, training, and feeding their livestock projects to be competitive in the show rings of the largest and most prestigious stock shows in the world. After last year’s cancellations, this year’s efforts by the students in the Sealy FFA exhibited not only livestock but also resilience as they navigated major stock showmanship during the pandemic. Showcasing the unstoppable spirit of determination and passion for agriculture, the Tigers elevated this year’s season to a historic level as the show season continues throughout the Spring.
Sealy High School Freshman and Sealy FFA Greenhand Kenna Schram exhibited the Champion Pen of Market Pullets at the Rodeo Austin Livestock Show. This allowed Kenna to return to the ring to be judged once more in the Champion Drive of the Market Broiler Show where she was placed as Reserve Champion Overall Market Pen of Broilers. Hundreds of pens of broilers arrived in Austin from all over the state the morning of March 16, all seeking the prize champion banners for their highest quality poultry. The judge carefully examined each of them in the ring throughout the day and after intense weeks of raising chicks into champions, Kenna’s hard work with her broilers sifted her pen to the top of the show. Kenna returned to Austin once more on Saturday, March 27 for the Youth Auction where her pen of broilers was featured among the Rodeo Austin Youth Auction Champions.
Students from across all of Sealy ISD exhibited livestock at major shows this season. Their livestock projects require the highest quality daily care at the hands of their owners over a span of many months, as well as a commitment level that can only be described as relentless. We congratulate each of them for representing as both Tigers and stewards of exemplary animal care across all of these stages. Entries in these shows include hundreds of exhibitors, and Tigers showed their way to success in each.
