Sealy High School’s Kenna Schram was crowned the Grand Champion for her Pen of Broilers (cockerels) at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo over the weekend.

Her project sold for $200,000 to Roger Camp, Becky and Kelly Joy, Julie and Alan Kent and Gregory Miller at the 2022 Junior Market Poultry Show. That total nearly tied the Rodeo record that was set in 2019 at $220,000.

“The Reserve Grand Champion award went to Jalee Baumann from Snook FFA. Both exhibitors had excellent pens of birds as Schram competed with a pen of cockerels (males) and Baumann competed with a pen of pullets (females),” a Rodeo Houston release said. “Grand Champi-Junior Market Turkey went to Colson Mooney, from Guadalupe County 4-H. Reserve Grand Champion went to Reide Reininger from Guadalupe County 4-H.”

Schram recently earned Grand Champion for her swine project at the Austin County Fair in October where she was also named the third-place senior showman.

Four Sealy FFA representatives joined Schram at the HLSR Poultry Show where Levi McNeely (20th place) and Hattie Schalla (52nd place) showed Pullets and Logan Schalla (66th place) and Tanner Mauney (90th place) showed Cockerels.

Eight Sealy projects were also presented at the Heifer and Goat Exhibition where more recognition was earned: Ansley Owen – Class 7 Goat Finalist; Reed Dittert – Class 11 Goat Exhibitor; Bryce Stanford – Class 12 HLSR and Austin Goat Exhibitor; Tracer Kruzel – 4th Class 2 Maine Anjou Heifer Class; Atalie Petrash – 6th Class 14 Brangus Heifer; Emmy McDaniel – 6th Class 13 Brangus Heifer; Sydney Petrash – 7th Class 7 ARB Heifer; Nicholas McDaniel – Class 1 Heifer Exhibitor.

The world’s largest Livestock Judging contest saw 1,200 contestants and five teams from Sealy. A trio also earned $2,250 scramble certificates: Ryleigh Gilfoil, Kruzel and Schram.

Out of 122 Junior teams, Sealy was represented by Jr. Team No. 1 (Sydney Petrash, Atalie Petrash, Ainsley Owen, Callie Whatley) which placed 11th, Jr. Team No. 2 (Reese Reichardt, Cole Whatley, Levi McNeely, Nicholas McDaniel) which placed 49th and Jr. Team No. 3 (Kash Parker, Keaton Parker, Easton). Out of 246 Senior teams, Sealy’s Senior Boys’ team placed 44th and Sealy’s Senior Girls’ team placed 50th.
