Last week, 11 students from Brazos High School competed at the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest at Edna High School.

The following students on earning Superior Ratings on their events.

Patrick Martinez: 1st Division Alto Sax Solo (STATE QUALIFIER), Megan McFarland: 1st Division French Horn Solo (STATE QUALIFIER) and Chloe Flores: 1st Division Trombone Solo.

On Jan. 31, Sealy Elementary had the pleasure and honor of hosting its first annual Scripps Spelling Bee.

Preparation for the Spelling Bee began in November in each homeroom in grades 1st through 5th.

After countless hours of study and competition within each homeroom, 30 contestants, representing their homerooms, advanced to Tuesday night’s stage. After 30 rounds and 221 words, a winner was declared.

Representing SES at the Regional competition on March 23 at the University of Houston will be Harper Kopczynski with Julian Cevallos as the school’s alternate.

The Horticulture Committee of Austin County, in partnership with the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service of Austin County, will be hosting a Small Farms & Vegetable Conference with five TDA CEUs on Friday, Feb. 23, at the American Legion Post #442 located at 1630 Meyer St, Sealy.

On Feb. 3, 217 childcare providers from more than 18 surrounding cities and towns registered to attend the multi-county childcare conference sponsored by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service.

Bellville High School congratulates its tractor tech team for placing second at the @ffa_xi Tractor Tech Contest last week.

The team consists of Donnie Smart, Chaise Richter, and Chase Hardin.

These boys have been working hard to get to this point and have qualified for the state contest at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo in March.

Three Sealy High School students will have their artwork displayed to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Megan Ondruch’s artwork “Curiosity,” was voted Best in Show winner.

Jayden Ashley’s artwork “We the People” was declared a Gold Medal winner.

Laura Hodges’ artwork “Goat kisses” was also named a Gold Medal winner.

AUSTIN — From Feb. 16-25, Texas coastal waters will close to crabbing with wire mesh crab traps to facilitate an annual volunteer crab trap cleanup.

Sealy FFA competes at Karnes County event

The Austin County A&M Club is currently accepting scholarship applications for the 2023–2024 school year. The scholarships are to be awarded to outstanding students in Austin County who meet the admission requirements of Texas A&M University and the scholarship requirements and are selected by the Scholarship Committee.
